Sleep on This
There's an old joke that a good night's sleep is one of the few things you enjoy that's actually good for you. But it can be hard to fall asleep if conditions aren't just right — perfect pillow, cozy bed. If you're part of a couple, your ideal conditions
may even clash with your partner's sleep style — keeping both of you awake at night. Whether you sleep alone or share your bed,
our bedding solutions can help you get the rest you need. But be careful. You might want to sleep all day too.
What's your sleep style?
Can't rest on a soft bed? Need to shed all the covers at night? That defines your sleep style. And it might be different from your
partner's. If either half of these clashing couples sounds like you, IKEA bedding solutions can help you sleep soundly.
The "Hot and Cold" Couple. Couples everywhere disagree about how cool or warm their beds should be in Sweden — where they know
something about staying comfortable in the cold — many couples simply use a different quilt on each side of the bed. But if changing the covers
doesn't solve your temperature problem, a change of mattress could.
To keep cool at night, try a spring mattress, which has spaces between the springs for air circulation.
If you prefer a warm bed, foam mattresses feature dense material that retains heat. If you like it "hot" and your partner likes it "cold", latex mattresses
are a good compromise. They're cooler than foam and warmer than spring mattresses.
The See-Saw Couple. Size matters. If your partner is heavier than you are, chances are he or she prefers a firm mattress. If that leaves you
uncomfortable, try an IKEA slat bed. These beds — which are popular in Europe — support the mattress with slats that can be adjusted to provide firmness
where one person wants it and a softer surface for his or her partner. The IKEA SULTAN LILLAKER beds also feature "bentwood" slats that adjust in the hip area for ideal comfort.
The Pillow Talk Pair. Sharing the same bed doesn't mean you have to use the same type of pillow. If you bought your pillows as a perfectly matched set,
chances are you or your partner (or both of you) is using the wrong kind of pillow.
Pillows aren't just about comfort. They keep your spine in alignment from head to hips. Using the wrong kind can mean waking up with aches and pains. If you sleep on your side,
choose a taller pillow to fill the space between your head and bed. If your partner sleeps on his back, make sure he uses a lower-profiled pillow to keep his head aligned with his spine.
Stomach sleepers should pick a pillow that's virtually flat. If you're still not sure which kind of pillow you need notice the position you're in when you wake up in the morning.
That's typically how you've spent the night.
